Our Mission

Greater Palm River POINT, Community Development Corporation (GPRP) is a neighborhood based not-for-profit organization that is committed to building a better Palm River community. Palm River is a strategically located, but largely unnoticed, community between Tampa and Brandon, in unincorporated Hillsborough County, Florida.

Greater Palm River POINT Community Development Corporation was created in 1996 (as Palm River POINT) through an initiative by the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. The purpose of the initiative was to engage residents and stakeholders (in select communities of Hillsborough County) in the process of identifying community priorities related to the school success and readiness of children between the ages of 0-5. To that end, GPRP has successfully facilitated the investment of over $1.5 million of Children’s Board monies to fund family support programs and services offered by neighborhood-based organizations.

Greater Palm River POINT Community Development Corporation has grown beyond its initial role as an advocate for funding for family support programs. To date, GPRP has involved hundreds of residents and stakeholders in the process of setting community priorities and goals around a wide range of issues affecting: quality of life; children and families; roadway improvements; economic development; and, family education.

In 2003, GPRP completed a strategic planning process to identify it’s future goals and strategies. The process provided a forum for participants to express their views and their vision for the community. The results of this process have reaffirmed the vision that has established our organization's mission and goals.

This vision has become our guide for improving the quality of life for the children and families of Palm River.
